My Dining Table - 2 years in the making

Okay so I am new to the Blog World but LOVE to scour the internet for ideas and inexpensive ways to re-create what I find.  With the help of my husband...okay he pretty much did this one himself, I got my "dream" dining table. I had found this in a magazine about 2 years ago...
...sorry don't remember the magazine but the table came from a fabulous modern furniture site based out of Toronto StyleGarage

My handy husband had some trees that needed to be cut down from our property milled into planks and left them to dry (...they sat there for 2 years until he found time to actually start the project)

Table Top is 3" thick before planing

After planing, the table top was 2 3/4" thick

Planks were then glued together and sanded.

Getting the wee ones involved - they helped "season" the table with whatever they could get their hands on! They had so much fun, seriously how often can you tell your kids to take a hammer, screwdriver and chain to your table and not be in trouble!

I didn't get any pictures of the base being made but my husband is a hobby welder and was able to whip the cross base up in a few  hours out of 3"x3"x3/16"square tubing....

Painted the base using a flat dark brown spray paint and here's the final product!

We rubbed the top with an antique stain and have yet to put a top coat on...

Everytime we have guests over, we get them to "season" the table a bit more to add some character. In the spring, we will take it back out to finish the top coat! Total cost was about $200!

I'm in love!

  1. Wow, so beautiful! So smart also to have a table your kids can't ruin. Wish my hubby was a welder:)

  2. OMGNESS, I'm loving this table. Completely inspired and I hope it's ok that I post your story on my blog. I'm also new to blogging and learning my way around.

    Thanks again for sharing.
